11th Sep Macona Inlet

Today the tide is perfect for fishing. Low tide at 8.30am and with a rising tide all morning Judy and I headed off in the dinghy to known fishing spot on the south west corner of Hook Island.

It was a bit windy in the beginning and a very brief spot rain-shower looked like ruining the day but we persevered and it was not long before Judy was rewarded with a surprise catch. A big green squid on a fish lure. Never have I seen that before. Yes, catching squid on a squid lure but not on a small lure designed to catch fish. Never the less we got it in the bucket and celebrated with high fives.

Judy continued her good form catching more fish although non-edible and undersize, I could not land one despite getting lots of hook ups.

Eventually I changed lures as I think the barbs were worn out on the other lure and they were not holding the fish.

A new lure did the trick and before long I landed 4 stripey perch.

That was dinner sorted.

After lunch, we explored in the dinghy and arrived at a little beach where we met Martin and Judy with Tilly Dog. Tilly was very happy to see us.

Tonight’s dinner was on Isabella where we had a beautiful entrĂ©e of squid and 4 magnificent fish cooked on the BBQ along with a coleslaw salad. There was little room for the bar of chocolate in our full tummies.

Very contented we left at about 9pm for a good night’s sleep.
