6th Aug South Mole Island to Palm Bay Hideaway – Long Island 5nm

We were greeted by another fantastic morning and it continued to be a sensational day. Not to hot, not too cold, just right.  We got away straight after breakfast and headed for the best kept secret in the Whitsundays.  We had been told about this resort that had fallen on hard times but had recently been brought back to life and maintained. It used to be a 5 star Peppers resort. We can anchor in a manmade lagoon for $50 a night and use the resorts facilities. The lagoon is just deep enough to accommodate but there is not a lot under the keel at low tide.
After a late morning tea and early lunch we headed off for a beautiful walk along to Sandy Beach. Not much of a beach when we got there as the tide had run out but can imagine at high tide is good for swimming. The round trip was about 7 km’s and a good work out going up the hills. Back to the resort we had a great swim in the pool which was very cool water. We joined another yacht “Daydream” and there 8 crew for sundowners in the beach pergola surrounded by palm trees. This is truly a magical spot.

We took our byo drinks and food and cooked up a nice meal on the resorts BBQ by the pool and enjoyed the company of others staying at the resort. The fire was lit and we sat and talked finishing the bottle of red. I think today was equal to any of the best days I have ever had cruising.
