24th Aug Circumnavigation of Great Palm Island and back to Orpheus Island. 30nm

We woke to very calm conditions so we left at 8.30 to sail to North East bay. We had heard reports that this bay is a rival to Whitehaven beach in the Whitsundays. Not so sure about that but it was fantastic all the same. It is a long white sandy beach with a few palm trees and a freshwater pool in the rocks at the northern end of the beach.

The pool was cold and refreshing after our long walk along the beach.

The sea water was crystal clear but the water temp was considerably higher at about 24 degrees. We could only have about 4 hours at the beach as it was time to go back to a more secure anchorage. Unfortunately this bay is exposed to the sea and it can be a painful night if the swell rolls in. We motored back to Orpheus Island and anchored the night at Hazard bay. On the way I managed to catch a nice Spotted Mackerel after losing one earlier in the day. So we had a lovely dinner of fish aboard Echo Beach that Leanne and Graham cooked.
A cosy dinner aboard Echo Beach after a long day.
