11th Aug Cape Upstart to Horseshoe bay – Magnetic Island 69nm

 Another lovely sunrise
At daybreak we raised the anchor and headed off hoping that the breeze from yesterday would continue for the day. The forecast said it was to be 10-15 knots. When we cleared the lee of Cape Upstart we certainly go our wind that was expected. The spinnaker was hoisted and we enjoyed a very good ride sometimes reaching over 8 knots. However it was not to last and by 1pm the wind had petered out to 6 knots. The big decision was made to motor for an hour or two in the hope that the afternoon northeast sea breeze would come in. That was not to be and we ended up motoring all the way.
We arrived at Horseshoe Bay at 5.30pm just in time for a swim and enjoy the last of the sun before it set. Sadly no fish on this long leg but another lesson learned – don’t let fish go on the expectation you will get them tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes!!!
We will spend some 2 nights at Horseshoe bay and do some walks and then it will be into Townsville Marina for 3 nights to clean the yacht and re provision for when Tamara arrives on Thursday and we will farewell Peter on the same day.
