The day started early and was quite chilly in the morning
until the sun came over the big peaks of Gloucester Island. We were on the
water at 7.30 am after breakfast. The wind was from the southeast but had
abated during the night as predicted. We set the spinnaker and had a very pleasant
sail all the way to Cape Upstart.

Houses at Cape Upstart.
Two of the Oyster fleet set sail with us but
they were no match for Billabong. One Oyster left and hour ahead of us and had
a spinnaker flying too. We finally passed her just before Cape Upstart. I don’t
think he was impressed when he crossed our stern to see it was a Bavaria that
had passed him.
We had the lines out most of the day and we caught 5 spotted
mackerel. I kept 3 and processed them but let the next 2 go as I could not be
bothered cleaning and filleting them so I pulled the lines in. Who said you
cannot catch fish with bananas on board.
We arrived at Cape Upstart and had a nice swim and a shower
and settled in to watch the sunset over the burning cane fields around Ayre. We
had a lovely feed of fresh mackerel and it was early to bed for an early
morning start.
