14th Oct Port Bundaberg to Urangun, Hervey Bay 46nm

Our planned two day stay did not eventuate. I woke at 7am and checked the weather. The forecast SE wind was coming through later than expected which gave us a window of opportunity to sail south to Urangun. As long as the bureau has got it right!!!  At 8am we cast off the lines and headed down the Burnett River in company with Nirvana’s Kitchen. The wind was around 14 knots and stayed that way until about 3 hours into the journey. A big black cloud passed over and the wind suddenly changed from the north to the south west and increased to over 20 knots. This had us somewhat worried as the forecast was for not more than 15 knots. We sailed with a full main and a jib and at times we were reaching speeds of 9 knots reaching across the wind. The wind did not increase beyond 22 knots and it became an unexpected great sail until the wind completely died as we neared Urangun and we had to motor the rest of the way.

The black cloud rolled over and gave us some anxious moments but eventually passed over and blue sky returned.

Once tied up in the marina we were able to wash the boat down and enjoy some shore time. That evening we were invited to Nirvana’s Kitchen for lovely spaghetti cooked by Nirvana. Incidentally Leon tells us how he named the yacht. He went out to buy a kitchen for Nirvana and came home after purchasing a yacht - hence the name. We had a great meal followed by a special desert cooked by Nirvana – Blueberry fruit cake with vanilla ice-cream. Yum!!!
