18th Sep Macona Inlet to Saba Bay back to Macona Inlet 16nm

After a slow start to the day and a late breakfast we followed Echo Beach around to Saba Bay. Conditions were a bit windy but we found a good spot in Saba Bay to anchor. We were joined by many other yachts that sought the flatter waters of the east side of Hook Island.
There are a lot of backpacker boats around the Whitsundays including this one that caught my eye!!!

The fringing reefs made for good snorkelling and good fishing. I trolled a deep dive lure along the edge of the reefs and caught 6 nice sized Stripey Perch. These are Tamara’s favourite fish to eat.

Stripey Perch are very tasty.
With a Tuna yesterday and Stripey Perch today I am really in the good books. I gave 2 fish to Echo Beach so they could have a taste and kept the 4 for lunch and dinner tomorrow night. The pressure to supply the ships stores by the hunter and gather is off with the meals sorted for tomorrow.
We finished off the last of the tuna sashimi for lunch and had a swim before heading back to Macona Inlet where we joined Echo Beach for a wonderful fish curry prepared by Leanne and cooked by Graham and Wayne. What a team effort!!
Again we slept soundly. Not sure if it was the calm waters or the bottle of red that did the job.
