It is not a great thing to celebrate your birthday the night
before you have to navigate a long passage. I was feeling a bit worse for wear
when I woke at 6am to lift the dinghy on the foredeck and get under way by
6.30am. We had a long passage and the wind was very light which meant motoring
all the way.
Leaving Scawfell Island we headed to the east side and the
raw beauty of the island showed itself. The rock faces are spectacular and plunge
deep into the ocean.
Rugged beauty of Scawfell Island
It was a long day motoring in perfect conditions. Graham
caught 2 mac tuna keeping one and letting the other go. I hooked a nice big
blue fin tuna that I fought for 15 minutes and lost it just as I was lifting it
onto the boat. We made it to Middle Percy Island by 4.30pm just in time to go
ashore and visit the Percy Hilton where it is a tradition for passing yachts to
leave a memento of their visit. We left one in 2011 so I updated it with this year’s
visit.
Our memento of our visit in 2011 and now 2013. How many more? Who knows.
5 o’clock drinks were on the beach and everyone was feeling
happy after a long day on route.
