We left Magnetic Island at 6am to get into Townsville marina
before the tide fell too much which would prevent our entry into the marina. It
is the same story for a lot of Queensland Marinas. They are silted up and they
cannot get permission to dredge the channels. So it inconveniences a lot of
yachties. There has to be a commonsense approach one day to this issue.
Hopefully after the election the greens won’t be so prominent.
We had a great day doing the maintenance required. Servicing
the engine took most of the time as did a few other 5 minute jobs that took 2
hours. When we entered the marina we went straight to the fuel jetty. I opened
the fuel cap to wait for the marina attendant to come but had to wait for a
while for the fuel pump to become free. Being the idiot I am I decided to wash
the boat while waiting. Yep filled the
fuel tank with a bit of water. So I had to pump a bit of water out of the
bottom of the fuel tank.
We walked up town for dinner after having 5 o’clock drinks
on Echo Beach in the company of Deryn the owner of Nari. This is one of the
original charter yachts in the Whitsunday’s it is over 50 years old and it was
great to get the history of the yacht. It was nearly lost in the floods in
Bundaberg. It ended up in the sewerage farm intact and it cost the insurance
company 3 times the value of the boat to salvage it and repair the sewerage
farm fence. That’s what you call in the s..t.
After dinner we happened to walk past the ice cream parlour
- the night was complete.
Townsville has a strand that runs along the foreshore and has these amazing Banyan Trees along it.
