At sunrise we raised the anchor and headed for Bait Reef. We
hailed a farewell to Echo Beach as we motored past and Graham and Leanne
appeared in the cockpit and then raised their anchor for a passage to Hamilton
Island where they will pick up Wayne and Chris Jarman from Sydney who are
joining Echo Beach for a week.

We arrived at Bait Reef at 10.30am with one good spotted
mackerel. I am starting to class them in size as meals for 2 people now as I
have no idea what they weigh. This one was 3 meals!!
The reef was calm and we had no trouble picking up a mooring
as there were only 3 boats there. The tide was on its way down which makes
conditions better for snorkelling. It was not long before we were visited by
the friendly fish. The big Maori Wrasse, the black and silver trevally and the
bat fish. They will eat as much as you can supply to them. I jumped in the
water with them and hand fed them. The Maori Wrasse will let you touch them
only if you feed them. Up until you feed them they come close but won’t let you
touch them.

The wind remained calm and the conditions were fantastic and
we stayed the night and enjoyed being out on the reef in the middle of nowhere.
Another great sunset with drinks and fish for dinner!!! It does not get much
better than this.
